There are places in the Northwoods where the road seems to disappear into the trees, and you find yourself slowing down just to see where it leads.
Not far from Dale’s log cabin in northern Wisconsin are old fire roads once used for logging. They are rough, quiet, and wonderfully unhurried. Few people travel them anymore. Dale enjoys taking these roads simply to see what the woods will reveal.
One day, the light stopped him.
Sunlight was filtering through the towering trees, falling across the forest floor in broken patches of gold, blue, and green. The deeper he looked, the more the woods seemed to open before him. Shadows became pathways. Light became a destination.
Dale captured that moment in watercolor, letting the transparent washes of pigment build the feeling of walking deeper into the forest. The dark trunks anchor the composition while the luminous distance pulls you forward. It is not simply a painting of a Northwoods trail. It is the experience of being there, when the forest is quiet, and the light tells you to keep going.
Walking with the Light is a reminder that some of the best places are found on the roads less traveled.
“The light was coming through the trees, and I just knew I had to paint it. There was something about that quiet path disappearing into the woods. It felt like the forest was inviting me to follow.”
